Title: Overcoming Amenorrhea Pdf Get Your Period Back. Get Your Life Back.
An important story from a brave runner Tina stepping forward and saying the things out loud that people are afraid to talk about - the pressures placed on young (female) runners to be dangerously thin and the long term health implications of that - will hopefully change people's lives. Historically, amenorrhea has not received the attention from coaches and medical professionals that it should - and I hope that Tina sharing her story will make runners and patients push back harder. The book itself reads like a conversation with an old friend. The pages fly by easily, and if you do not already know Tina from her blog or podcast, you will quickly find yourself thinking of her as an old college buddy, or a sister. That Tina found her happy ending is inspiring and wonderful, but that she is still sharing her story and not allowing herself to be satisfied because it happened to all work out for her is a testament to the kind of person she is.This book is a gift! This book is a gift to all girls and women who are concerned about their long term health in regards to the healthy function of their menstrual cycle, and who are struggling with amenorrhea. Author and elite runner, Tina Muir, writes directly from her heart to you the reader through the lense of her personal experience of coming to terms with the long-term loss of of her period and what it would take to get it back. Her writing approach is very open and personal as she describes how the loss of her period developed and the mental and emotional process she went through to address it and ultimately overcome it.Tina clearly cares deeply for girls and women who have or may be at risk for developing amenorrhea as the long term health implications are serious.I am a 58 year old who had three separate instances of amenorrhea - each lasting several years or more. Each instance was caused by underfueling for my level of activity and my body fat being too low. I now have osteopenia and am on the borderline for needing medication to preserve my compromised bone mass.I urge you to read this fantastic, informative, caring and compassionate book, and to share it with other women, young teenagers - even athletic coaches. Amenorrhea is a very serious health issue that needs much more attention among women. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!!Mandatory reading for all runners (not just women!!) Like many athletes, I have had amenorrhea at several points in my life. This has led to injury, frustration and feelings of hopelessness. I silently trudged on and thought my situation was unique. As I read Tina's book, I found myself saying, "YES!!" out loud so many times. With this book, Tina is breaking the silencing stigma on menstruation by sharing personal stories that are often shared among close friends. Because of this, Tina is helping so many runners who may not know about amenorrhea, runners who struggle with body insecurity and runners want to learn how to fuel for health, not to fill a caloric budget.Tina has become such a role model to me because she affirms how to be the healthiest you can be. Health is not determined by fast times; health is about being as kind to your body as possible and treating it with respect. Tina is the empathetic friend everybody with amenorrhea deserves. She is my motivation to keep working toward a period, even when the fight seems never-ending!This book is not just important reading material for female runners. Men need to read this too! She is clearly passionate and intelligent, both traits come through very easily in her book. I am recommending it to all of my athletic friends! A great read!
